KOIVULAN BAKERIES Ltd
Koivula Bakeries Ltd is a medium sized bakery company in south-eastern Finland in Anjalankoski. Koivulan Bakery has a large range of organic and conventional fresh and dry bread and pastries. Koivulan specializes in traditional Finnish rye bread which is prepared using whole meal rye flour and the traditional sourdough. The rye bread is marketed both freshly baked and as dried rye crisps. Even fresh bread can be marketed over longer distances using protective gas packaging technology which gives the products a longer shelf life.
Rye bread is widely consumed in Finland as a staple bread product. Wheat is a relatively late entrant into the Finnish farming system and therefore rye was the main bread grain until the early 20th century. Rye is considered a health benefitting cereal - as expressed by the old saying "rye in your wrist gives you strength". More contemporary science has shown that rye contains dietary fiber useful for the digestive system and research indicates that whole-grain rye bread can protect agains cancer, cardiovasculardisease and type II diabetes.
